Here are more general sign-up details for our February 12th through 14th Campout at Enchanted Rock State Park (“E-Rock”) >
In addition camping in the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, E- Rock permits the Troop to accomplish several important tasks: First, is the opportunity for our newest Scout patrols to work on patrol development and key advancement skills. Next is the opportunity for our older Scouts to begin critical preparation for their non-merit badge camp summer activities, such as Chimayo (High Adventure Trek and Walkabout), the Rio Grande/Boquillas Adventure and activities at Camp Sheppard and Mt. Ranier in Washington State, known generally, as “shakedowns.” All Scouts going on these latter, non merit badge camp adventures are expected to go on shakedown exercises, such as E-Rock.

Scouts who are not members of Flaming Eagles, Longhorn and the Question Mark Patrols and who have not yet made concrete plans to attend a particular summer camp are strongly encouraged to join with those elements of the Troop headed to E- Rock for shakedowns.

The link to sign-up for E-Rock is furnished below. All Scouts and Adults (Goats) planning to attend must sign-up and furnish a Waiver/Consent for this campout.

The new scout patrols, Flaming Eagles, Longhorn, and Question Mark, will engage in advancement activities such as a 5 mile hike.

The “shakedown” groups will engage in backpacking and/or climbing and rappelling, depending on the needs of and plans for the particular group.

Additional details as to when the bus departs, gear needed, etc. will be announced in the future. However, Scouts and Adults who do not sign-up and who do not furnish the Waiver/Consent will not be permitted to attend the E-Rock Campout.

When using the on-line sign-up system, please pay careful attention to the selections you are making. Here is the link >

Complete Parts 1, 2 and 3 on February 16, 17 and 18th, 2010. This course is designed for any adult who is currently serving as or who intends to become a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster in the troop.  The course is also beneficial for parents who simply desire a better understanding of how the troop functions. To register or for further information, please email or call Dale Sawyer at 713-301-6759 (c).

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS): This Course is also recommended for adults who wish to become an ASM. An orientation session is scheduled for April 12th, followed by an overnighter May1st-2nd.  Go to the Golden Arrow District Website, www.goldenarrow.org for details.

Also, don't forget there are a number of short, on-line courses that can be completed almost anytime, including Fast Start, This is Scouting, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, Hazardous Weather and Troop Committee Challenge, all of which are highly interesting and easy to complete. Contact Troop Trainer, Tom Whiteside for details on how to access and document completion of these courses.
