New Programs

Venture Patrols

The new programs include the option for Scouts to join or reorganize themselves as a Venture Patrol. A Venture Patrol is an optional patrol within the troop made up of Scouts age 13 and older. These troop members have the maturity and experience to take part in more challenging high-adventure outings. The Venture patrol elects a patrol leader, who works with an assistant Scoutmaster to put the patrol's plans into action. How a Venture Patrol will work, what high adventure activities they can plan will all be discussed in the meeting. Sign ups for these new Patrols will be taken.

Philmont 2009

The Troop has recently received word that space is available for our Scouts to participate in a high adventure Trek at Philmont. Please come and find out more about this great program for the summer of 2009.

Golden Arrow Trails

The Golden Arrow District is sponsoring the revival of a backpacking weekend adventure at the DbarC, the ranch owned by Mark Lum’s family in Brookshire. This is a program to learn and practice backpacking skills, particularly if you are planning on going backpacking next summer for the first time. If you are experienced, it will give you the chance to have a great Texas fall weekend without a Troop trailer at the DbarC near the Brazos.

Troop Leadership

The Troop has developed a new standard agreement for each leadership position in the Troop that describes what each Scout must do to receive leadership credit for advancement. Each agreement incorporates a specific job description for each leadership position. Come and find out what you will need to do to serve as a leader.

Continuing Programs

Council NYLT - Our Council puts on a week long National Youth Leadership Training course three times a year. Over 65 of our Scouts have participated in this program. The next course is December 26 to December 31 at the Bovay Scout Ranch. First Class Scouts who are at least an older 13 years old may attend. Applications will be available.

National BSA-NAYLE- This is an National BSA advanced leadership program held at the Philmont Scout Ranch for Scouts who have completed NYLT. It is a week long course held in the Philmont backcountry and builds on the leadership skills learned at NYLT. Applications will be available.

Troop- High Adventure at the Montana High Adventure Base- The Troop has reserved space this summer for Scouts to spend a week at the Montana High Adventure Base near the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Come and find out more about this great program in beautiful Montana.
