Interested adults can go to the BSA website, fill out the registration page, and take any or all of the online courses for adults at any time. The ID number can be supplied at any time - before OR after the online training is completed.
Major change in BSA's Youth Protection Training requirements effective June 1, 2010:
- Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all BSA registered volunteers, regardless of their position. This includes, and is not limited to, merit badge counselors.
- Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's YPT record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
- New leaders are required to take YPT before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
Adult Volunteers who have not completed Youth Protection Training within the past 2 years, and wish to retain the privilege of working with our Scouts in any capacity, need to go to the BSA's online learning center (see link below), create an account and take the YPT course.
After taking YPT or any of the other online courses, please do the following:
- Print and retain your certification card, and
- Send a message to James Cauble with the course name and the completion date, and he will record the completion in Troop 55's training records.
Please note that your certifications from the online courses are maintained in BSA's training records, but Troop 55 has no way of knowing what courses you have taken completed you take this extra step to inform T-55.
