Cooking Merit Badge Class – Sunday, November 1, 1:00–3:30 PM
Mr. Thompson will be offering a Cooking Merit Badge class on Sunday, November 1, from 1:00 to 3:30 PM in Room 236 @ SJD
The class will cover requirements 1–3, including food safety and sanitation, preventing foodborne illness, kitchen safety, nutrition, healthy eating habits, and understanding food labels. We will also discuss proper menu planning, food selection, budgeting, and preparation for the cooking activities required in requirements 4–6 (cooking at home, at camp, and on the trail).
Prerequisite: Scouts should complete the research for requirement 7 (Food-Related Careers) before attending.
This class will not complete the merit badge, but it will provide a foundation for completing the practical cooking requirements.
Adult Volunteers: At least one registered adult leader is needed to attend. Additional adults are welcome, particularly current, new, or prospective Cooking Merit Badge counselors who would like to become more familiar with teaching the badge.
